New Delhi, 8th August.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar temporarily left the House on Thursday morning following an uproar and walkout by Opposition members over the disqualification of wrestler Vinesh Phogat from the Olympics.

The disturbance began after the listed papers were tabled, when Leader of Opposition and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge sought to raise the issue of Phogat’s disqualification and question who was responsible. Dhankhar did not permit Kharge to address the matter.

TMC member Derek O’Brien also attempted to raise issues but was rebuffed by the Chair. Dhankhar criticized O’Brien’s behavior, calling it the “ugliest” he had seen in the House and warning that further disruptions would lead to expulsion.

As the uproar intensified, Opposition parties staged a walkout. Dhankhar, expressing his distress over the conduct of the members, exited the House temporarily, stating he was leaving “with a heavy heart.” During his absence, Deputy Chairman Harivansh chaired the Zero Hour proceedings.
