In a sharp rebuttal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent comments regarding the Congress manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge issued a scathing response, asserting that BJP leaders should first examine the historical records of their own party. Kharge accused the BJP of attempting to “divide” the nation along religious lines.

“They themselves were with the Muslim League. Their ideologue formed a government with the Muslim League in Bengal…they should read their own history…,” Kharge remarked in an interview with ANI.

Highlighting what he perceives as the Prime Minister’s narrow focus on Hindu-Muslim dynamics, Kharge criticized Modi for allegedly perpetuating division based on religion, thereby fracturing societal cohesion.

He challenged Modi’s interpretation of the Congress manifesto, emphasizing the party’s commitment to youth employment, women’s welfare through an annual ₹1 lakh support, and MSP guarantees for farmers.

“In his (PM Modi) mind, there is only Hindu-Muslim…dividing the country in the name of religion, breaking the society. He has not read our manifesto properly. We have said that we would provide employment to the youth, give ₹ one lakh to women annually, MSP guarantee to farmers, is that Muslim league?” Kharge questioned.

PM Modi has previously insinuated in his Lok Sabha campaign speeches that the Congress manifesto reflects the ideology of the Muslim League.

The Congress manifesto includes a comprehensive array of promises, ranging from legal guarantees for Minimum Support Price (MSP), 50 per cent reservation for women in government jobs, and repealing the Agnipath scheme, to ambitious economic targets such as doubling GDP within the next ten years, fortifying anti-defection laws, restoring status quo ante with China, providing mobile phones to students from class IX to XII, and amending the GST regime.
