New Delhi, 6th March. An ongoing political controversy was sparked on Tuesday by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP A Rajas’s remarks regarding Lord Ram and India. The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) posted a clip of A Raja’s recent speech on social media, in which the DMK MP was heard calling India more of a subcontinent than a country.

He further declared himself to be Lord Ram’s enemy. During a speech in Madurai on March 4, a Raja questioned the idea and justification for referring to India as a nation. He continued, “Jai Shri Ram is chi.” Subsequently, A Raja’s arrest is being demanded by BJP leaders due to his offensive remarks that have offended numerous people.

What Did a Raja Say?

During his speech in the Madurai district, A Raja stated that India should be seen more as a subcontinent than as a nation. He questioned the rationale behind this viewpoint, arguing that different languages and regions within India, such as Tamil, Malayalam, and Oriya, could be considered separate countries, each with its own identity and culture. Raja says that instead of being a single nation, these varied countries make up India as a subcontinent.

According to him, Tamil Nadu rejects ideas that the BJP believes this to be God and that it symbolizes Jai Sri Ram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai. He went on to say that Jai Shri Ram is despised by the people of Tamil Nadu. He asserted that he doesn’t believe in Lord Ram and the Ramayana, saying, “Jai Shri Ram is viewed with disdain.” Your Jai Shri Ram is Chi! Idiots! He supposedly exclaimed.

BJP Attacks India Bloc and A Raja

Both the Congress and the BJP have expressed their anger over the speech. Amit Malviya, a BJP leader, stated on X that the INDIA bloc’s silence, particularly that of PM candidate Rahul Gandhi, is deafening. He continued, “After Udhayanidhi Stalin’s call to destroy Sanatan Dharma, it is now A Raja who calls for India to be divided into several states, insults Bhagwan Ram, speaks poorly of Manipuris, and questions the very concept of India as a nation.” Malviya posted the Tamil version of the speech on YouTube and also supplied an English translation of the alleged remarks.

Chief of the Tamil Nadu BJP, K Annamalai, poked fun at the DMK by claiming that the party exists to appease those who despise Sanatan Dharm. He stated in a tweet that the goals of a dynasty-run party and an I.N.D.I. Alliance members are to “loot beyond proportion” and “appease your masters who hate Sanathana Dharma.”

Congress Stays Away From Remark

Supriya Shrinate, the Congress spokesperson, denounced A Raja’s comments at a press conference in the meantime. She stated that she strongly disapproves of his remarks and that she disagrees with them entirely. She went on to say, “I disassociate myself from such remarks,” adding that Lord Ram is inclusive of all people and transcends all communities. She advised people to use caution and moderation when voicing their thoughts.
