New Delhi, 13th April: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday underscored the central role of women in India’s development while addressing the Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan at Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital.

Calling the moment “historic,” the Prime Minister said India is on the verge of a major decision dedicated to women’s empowerment, referring to the implementation of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, which aims to enhance women’s representation in legislatures.

He emphasised that the long wait for greater participation of women in assemblies and Parliament is nearing its end and urged all stakeholders to ensure its timely implementation through dialogue and cooperation.

Women Driving Change
Highlighting the contribution of women across sectors, Modi said India’s “Nari Shakti” has played a vital role from the freedom struggle to nation-building. He noted that women today are excelling in fields once considered male-dominated, including aviation, defence, and entrepreneurship.

He pointed out that over 14 lakh women are part of Panchayati Raj institutions, with participation reaching nearly 50 per cent in several states, reflecting growing grassroots leadership.

Focus on Inclusion and Empowerment
The Prime Minister outlined various government initiatives aimed at supporting women at every stage of life—from education and healthcare to financial inclusion and entrepreneurship.

He cited schemes such as Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, Jan Dhan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, and Mudra loans, noting that millions of women have benefited and gained economic independence.

He also highlighted that more than 3 crore women have become homeowners under PM Awas Yojana, while nearly 10 crore women have joined self-help groups, contributing to rural economic growth.

Vision for Viksit Bharat
Stressing that women-led development is key to achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, Modi said expanding opportunities for women would strengthen democracy and accelerate national progress.

He urged women across the country to actively participate in the ongoing discourse and share their aspirations, calling for collective efforts to ensure equal representation and decision-making power.
