Delhi Chalo Protest:Seven districts in Haryana restorated mobile internet services

New Delhi, 25th Feb.  Nearly two weeks after being suspended in response to farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ agitation, mobile internet services were reinstated in seven districts of Haryana on Sunday, according to officials.

On February 11, services were suspended in Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad, and Sirsa. On February 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 21, 23, and 24, the suspension was prolonged.

According to officials, no new directive has been issued to prolong the mobile service ban in the seven districts. The curbs were put in place “to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order in jurisdictions of Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa, including Dabwali districts in Haryana,” per an earlier order from the Home Department.

Locals applauded the government’s choice

“After being unavailable for several days, the return of mobile internet services is a huge relief,” Ambala resident Kamal stated.

The “Delhi Chalo” agitation is being led by the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) in an effort to pressure the Center into granting farmers’ demands, which include a waiver of farm loans and a legal guarantee of the minimum support price (MSP) for crops.

Since February 13, when security forces broke up their march, protesting farmers from Punjab who were taking part in the event have set up camp at the Shambhu and Khanauri points of the state’s border with Haryana.

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher had stated on Friday that the farmers would remain at the two border points until February 29, at which point the next course of action would be determined.

Following clashes at Khanauri on Wednesday that resulted in the death of a protester and the injuries of approximately twelve police officers, farmer leaders decided to postpone the “Delhi Chalo” march for two days.
