Delhi Govt to Introduce Law Regulating Coaching Centres: Atishi

GG News Bureau
New Delhi, 31st July. In the wake of a tragic incident where three IAS aspirants drowned in a flooded basement of a coaching institute in Old Rajinder Nagar, the Delhi government has announced plans to introduce a law to regulate coaching centres.

Cabinet Minister Atishi made the announcement on Wednesday, highlighting that the legislation will address infrastructure standards, teacher qualifications, fee regulations, and misleading advertisements.

A committee comprising government officials and students from various coaching hubs will be formed to draft the new law, with public feedback also being sought.

In response to the incident, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has taken action against coaching centres operating illegal basement facilities.

Basements of 30 coaching centres in areas such as Rajinder Nagar and Mukherjee Nagar have been sealed, and notices have been issued to 200 other centres.

Atishi also mentioned that a magisterial probe into the Old Rajinder Nagar incident is underway, with a report expected in six days.

The inquiry will investigate potential negligence by officials and the handling of a complaint about the illegal use of the basement at Rau’s IAS Study Circle.
