New Delhi, 8th Nov. The Delhi High Court on Wednesday rejected a petition to allow the celebration of Chhath Puja at the Yamuna River banks.

The court stated that the ban is in place to prevent pollution in the river.

The petitioner requested to withdraw the plea, which was granted by the court.

The petitioners, Chhath Pooja Sangharsh Samiti and Purwanchal Jagriti Manch, had sought to overturn an order by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority that prohibited the celebration of Chhath Puja at the Yamuna river banks.

The plea, presented by advocate Vijay Shankar Dubey, requested permission for the puja to take place at various ghats and the river banks.

The Delhi government also opposed the petition.

The plea highlighted that the ban has affected 30-40 lakh devotees who participate in Chhath Puja in Delhi.
