Delhi Police Awaits Order on Withdrawal of Protest Cases

New Delhi, 27th July: Delhi Police has not yet received any government order to withdraw cases registered in connection with the paper leak protests at Jantar Mantar, official sources said on Monday.
Sources said that if such an order is issued, the police will follow the legal process and seek the court’s permission to withdraw the cases. However, cases filed by journalists alleging assault during the protests will not be withdrawn.
The cases relate to the July 20 violence during a march to Parliament demanding the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Around 20 cases were registered, including 14 related to violence, one for unauthorised drone use and several based on complaints by journalists.
Officials said the prosecution will approach the Lieutenant Governor after receiving government approval and subsequently inform the concerned courts. The final decision on withdrawing the cases will be taken by the judiciary.
