New Delhi, 31st July. Civil services aspirants in Delhi have started an indefinite hunger strike demanding action following the tragic deaths of three students in the flooded basement of Rau’s IAS Study Circle building in Old Rajinder Nagar. The students, protesting for the past three days, are calling for compensation, accountability, and safety measures.

Over 400 students have participated in the protest, which has been met with heavy police presence. A group of ten aspirants began their hunger strike, demanding a compensation of ₹5 crore for the victims’ families, details of the FIR, a committee report within a specified timeframe, and a ban on using basements for libraries and classes in Delhi.

One protester expressed frustration, saying, “We had hoped the administration would listen, but after four days, it seems our concerns are being ignored. We are here to ensure justice is served.”

The three UPSC aspirants died on July 27 when heavy rains caused flooding from a nearby drain into the basement library.

Delhi Police have been engaging with the protesters daily, with Deputy Commissioner of Police M Harsha Vardhan stating that they are addressing the students’ concerns and communicating with relevant authorities. A delegation of students also met with Lt Governor VK Saxena to present their demands.
