New Delhi, 13th April.
Delhi’s Water Minister Atishi has written to the chief secretary highlighting the issue of water scarcity in certain areas of south Delhi. She has requested an increase in the number of water tankers to match last summer’s levels.

Atishi has also instructed the chief secretary to expedite the boring and commissioning of tubewells within a week to address the urgent situation.

She mentioned receiving complaints about severe water shortages in various areas including Aya Nagar, Bapu Camp, Sambhav Camp, Maidan Gadhi, Kharak Revada, Mandi, Asola Band Road, Sanjay Colony, Bhati Mines, Indira Enclave, Freedom Fighter Colony, and Jonapur Colony.

Atishi emphasized that the problem has worsened due to the early arrival of summer in Delhi. She warned that if the issue is not resolved promptly, a crisis may emerge in the affected areas.

Atishi expressed concern that instead of addressing the water crisis, the number of water tankers serving these areas has been reduced compared to last summer. She also criticized the delay in the implementation of borewell projects, suggesting a possible deliberate attempt to create a water shortage.

Given the approaching summer season, Atishi stressed the importance of taking immediate action to address the water scarcity problem in Delhi.

She clarified that the Model Code of Conduct does not prohibit essential work during elections. Atishi urged the chief secretary to ensure the regular supply of 5MGD of treated water allocated to Chhatarpur UGR.
