GG News Bureau

New Delhi 3rd March. The Department of Military Affairs, under the Ministry of Defence, is organizing a two-day intensive brainstorming session between the Service Headquarters and significant stakeholders from the Department of Defence Production, representatives from the Defence Industry, and other pertinent partners on March4-5, 2024, in keeping with the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat and the “Make in India” initiative. The main takeaways will be the workable path forward that emerged from consultative and participative processes through high-level discussions to encourage indigenization and also develop strategies and tactics to improve private industry participation in defense R&D and manufacturing ecosystem.

The sessions will be chaired by General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff, and the keynote address will be given by Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane. The event covers a wide range of topics, including identifying obstacles and developing solutions to boost the military’s efforts to become more indigenous, addressing issues related to sustenance, encouraging private sector involvement in defense R&D and the manufacturing ecosystem, and—most importantly—creating and improving facilities for maintenance, repair, and overhaul for the armed forces.

The event, which is being organized by HQ IDS and SIDM, will bring together important figures from the MoD, Services, and Industry to support the indigenization efforts even more. This will make it easier to create a timeline-bound action plan that will encourage indigenization in the defense industry.
