New Delhi, 15th March.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DHL, a global logistics service provider, to enhance e-commerce exports from India.

The collaboration, marked by the MoU signing event, seeks to facilitate capacity-building sessions, training, and workshops for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in 76 districts across the country. The initiative is part of DGFT’s broader agenda to promote the ‘District as Export Hubs’ initiative and empower Indian MSMEs to explore international markets through e-commerce channels.

During the event, Shri Sunil Barthwal, Commerce Secretary, underscored the significance of India’s e-commerce ecosystem and highlighted the strides made in creating a robust digital infrastructure. He emphasized the potential for MSMEs, especially from rural India, to leverage this infrastructure to connect with global markets. Additionally, he commended initiatives like Bharat Mart and envisioned how such warehousing initiatives could bolster India’s foreign trade.

Shri Santosh Sarangi, DG, DGFT, emphasized that the collaboration with DHL aims to familiarize exporters and MSMEs with the digital commerce space, facilitating the export of “Make in India” products and overcoming logistical challenges associated with e-commerce exports.

Expressing enthusiasm for the partnership, John Pearson, Global CEO of DHL Express, highlighted DHL’s commitment to empowering MSMEs in the global market through its Go Trade program. He emphasized that this partnership signifies DHL’s dedication to India and its alignment with the Foreign Trade Policy 2023.

The collaboration between DGFT and DHL aims to assemble a team of knowledge experts to support Indian exporters and MSMEs in the identified districts through handholding sessions. Additionally, a startup kit will be developed for first-time exporters and MSMEs seeking to enter the global market.

This partnership follows previous MoUs signed by DGFT with Amazon India and Shiprocket, covering 20 and 16 districts respectively.
