Doordarshan to Broadcast T20 World Cup Matches and Major International Sporting Events

New Delhi, 4th June. Prasar Bharati has announced that Doordarshan will telecast the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in West Indies and the USA, starting from June 2 on the DD Free Dish platform. This will be followed by coverage of several other major global international sporting events.

Doordarshan’s lineup of telecasts includes live and deferred live coverage, as well as highlights of significant sporting events such as the Paris Olympics Games 2024, Paris Paralympic Games, and international cricket series featuring India against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. Additionally, Doordarshan will broadcast the finals of the French Open 2024 and Wimbledon 2024.

During an interaction with the media in New Delhi, CEO Prasar Bharati, Shri Gaurav Dwivedi, announced this initiative. Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Shri Sanjay Jaju, along with Chairman of Prasar Bharati, Shri Navneet Kumar Sehgal, CEO Shri Gaurav Dwivedi, and DG of Doordarshan, Ms. Kanchan Prasad, launched a special anthem called ‘Jazba’ for the T20 World Cup, sung by Shri Sukhwinder Singh. Additionally, they unveiled a promotional video for the T20 event narrated by renowned storyteller Shri Neelesh Misra.

Prasar Bharati has collaborated with leading global sports bodies like the NBA and PGTA to showcase their content on DD Sports. Notably, NBA’s popular e-sports property NBA 2K League matches are telecast on DD Sports Channel.

Doordarshan has also made extensive arrangements for the counting process on Tuesday, as informed by Shri Gaurav Dwivedi during the interaction. Over the past year, DD Sports has produced and telecasted various multi-sporting events across the country, including the Khelo India University Games, Khelo India Youth Games, National Games, Khelo India Para Games, and Khelo India Winter Games. The network has shared the feed of these games with leading private channels like Star Sports, Jio Cinema, and Sony Network.

Furthermore, Doordarshan has secured linear television rights for all platforms for the Indian Cricket Team’s tour of West Indies in August 2023. The network also produced the World Feed of cricket matches during the Hangzhou Asian Games in China, which was telecast in multiple countries across Asia.
