EAM Jaishankar Calls for Building Deep National Strengths for India’s Transition to Leading Power

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized the need for India to cultivate “deep national strengths” as it charts its path towards becoming a leading global power. In a virtual address at the Asia Economic Dialogue in Pune, he underscored that India’s goals and ambitions should not rely solely on external goodwill.

Jaishankar highlighted the vision of the Narendra Modi government, emphasizing that its initiatives over the past decade have been geared towards bolstering national strength. He emphasized the importance of leveraging this momentum during what he referred to as the “Amrit Kaal” to propel India towards becoming a developed economy and a prominent global power.

Addressing geopolitical challenges, Jaishankar identified supply chain vulnerabilities stemming from globalization, emphasizing the need to diversify options to enhance resilience and reliability. He also discussed the intrusive nature of technology in the digital era, stressing the importance of trust and transparency in technology providers.

The minister further discussed the challenges posed by over-concentration and unpredictability in the globalized world, particularly underscored during the COVID-19 pandemic. He emphasized the need for greater international cooperation to mitigate unilateral demands and economic domination, particularly in critical and emerging technologies.

Jaishankar emphasized the importance of enhancing India’s comprehensive national power through skill development across various domains, highlighting the need for a concerted effort to navigate these challenges and bolster India’s position on the global stage.
