External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s address at the ET Awards 2023 provided a compelling narrative on India’s evolving global image, highlighting the nation’s assertiveness, resilience, and proactive engagement on the world stage.

Jaishankar, honored as the ‘Reformer of the Year’, emphasized that India is now perceived as a country capable of charting its own path and addressing challenges independently. He underscored India’s principled stance on issues ranging from consumer interests to national security, portraying a transformed India that confidently defends its positions.

In his remarks, Jaishankar pointed out India’s pivotal role during the COVID-19 pandemic, where the nation emerged as a global provider of vaccines through initiatives like ‘Vaccine Maitri’. Despite facing domestic challenges, India extended assistance to over 100 countries, showcasing its commitment to global health and solidarity.

Furthermore, the minister highlighted India’s extensive global outreach efforts, including initiatives such as ‘Operation Ganga’, ‘Kaveri’, ‘Ajay’, and the ‘Vande Bharat’ mission, which ensured the welfare of Indian citizens abroad during the pandemic. He also emphasized India’s economic progress, noting its remarkable growth trajectory despite prevailing global uncertainties.

Addressing contemporary global challenges, Jaishankar acknowledged ongoing conflicts and maritime concerns, underscoring the importance of leadership, vision, and collective commitment in navigating these complex issues. He emphasized the need for India to capitalize on emerging opportunities in the global marketplace, workplace, and technology landscape, urging for sustained national leadership and unity to seize these prospects effectively.

Earlier discussions by Jaishankar at the Raisina Roundtable underscored India’s strategic infrastructure projects aimed at bolstering connectivity and trade links across regions. He outlined major corridors, including the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and the international north-south transport corridor, emphasizing their significance in enhancing connectivity from the Atlantic to the Pacific through Asia.
