EAM Jaishankar Expresses Condolences on Hathras Stampede Tragedy

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims and expressed his sympathy for those injured in the tragic stampede in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh.

“Deeply distressed by the tragic loss of lives in a stampede in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. Sincere condolences to the bereaved families. Pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” EAM Jaishankar stated in a message on social media.

The stampede occurred during a religious event in Hathras, resulting in the tragic loss of 116 lives and leaving 18 others injured, according to officials.

In response to the incident, authorities conducted a search operation at the Ram Kutir Charitable Trust in Mainpuri district to locate ‘Bhole Baba’, who conducted the Satsang where the stampede occurred. However, the search did not yield any results, as confirmed by Deputy SP Sunil Kumar.

Aligarh Commissioner Chaitra V confirmed the death toll and provided details on the injured, stating that medical treatment is being provided in Aligarh district, where the injured are receiving care.

Inspector General Shalabh Mathur confirmed that post-mortem examinations are being conducted on the deceased, and stated that an FIR will be filed against event organizers for exceeding the permitted attendance limit.

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced compensation of ₹2 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, while affirming the state government’s efforts to provide assistance to the victims.
