ED Appoints Satyabrat Kumar as Eastern Region Head

Kolkata, 19th Sept. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has appointed Satyabrat Kumar, a 2004-batch IRS officer, as the new special director for its eastern region office in Kolkata.

Kumar, who previously led the ED’s western region from Mumbai, will now oversee sensitive investigations in Kolkata, including the R G Kar hospital money-laundering case and other high-profile corruption matters involving politicians.

Subhash Agrawal, who was the special director of the eastern region, has been transferred to head the western region office in Mumbai.

Kumar, with 11 years of service in the ED, has been involved in significant cases, including the USD 2 billion fraud involving diamond traders Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi, as well as the Mahadev online betting app case.

The ED’s eastern region covers West Bengal and the northeastern states, while the western region includes Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Goa.
