Editors Guild of India Calls for Lifting of Media Restrictions in Parliament

New Delhi, 2nd July. The Editors Guild of India has appealed to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar to remove access restrictions on media coverage of Parliament proceedings.
In a letter addressed to Speaker Birla, the Guild emphasized that restrictions on the number of media personnel, including those with permanent accreditation, were introduced as part of COVID-19 protocols.
The Guild also highlighted concerns about the non-reconstitution of the Press Advisory Committee, which was established in 1929 under the guidance of Vithalbhai Patel, then-president of the Central Legislative Assembly.
The letter to Chairman Dhankhar urged the restoration of full access for all accredited media personnel without requiring additional access passes. The Guild argued that this would reduce bureaucratic burdens, aligning with broader efforts to streamline administrative processes.
