Enforcement Directorate Issues Fresh Summons to Rahul Gandhi for June 13

New Delhi, 3rd June. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday issued fresh summons to Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case and asked the Congress leader to join the probe on June 13.

Earlier, the ED had summoned Rahul Gandhi to join the investigation on June Thursday (June 2, 2022).

Enforcement Directorate’s move comes after the questioning of senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress Treasurer Pawan Bansal in April, 2022 in Delhi in connection with its money laundering investigation into the National Herald case. The ED had then recorded the statements of both the Congress leaders then under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The National Herald is published by Associated Journals Limited and owned by Young Indian Private Limited.

While Mallikarjun Kharge is the CEO of Young Indian Private Limited, Bansal is the Managing Director of Associated Journals Limited.

The ED is currently scrutinizing the shareholding pattern and financial transactions as well as the role of party functionaries in the functioning of the Associated Journals Limited and Young Indian Private Limited.

The Young Indian Private Limited promoters include Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Subramanian Swamy had blamed that the Gandhis cheated and misappropriated funds, with Young Indian Private Limited paying only Rs 50 lakh to obtain the right to recover Rs 90.25 crore that Associated Journals Limited owed to the Congress.

Swamy had filed a complaint with a Delhi court earlier. Following the court taking cognizance of an Income Tax Department investigation against Young Indian Private Limited on Swamy’s petition, the Enforcement Directorate also lodged a fresh case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
