New Delhi, 4th April.
Former Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today, shortly after resigning from the Congress Party, citing dissatisfaction with its current direction.

In a two-page resignation letter, Vallabh expressed his discontent with the trajectory of the Congress Party, stating that he could not align with its approach of consistently criticizing certain ideologies and demonizing wealth creators.

“I can neither raise anti-Sanatan slogans nor abuse wealth creators day in and day out. Therefore, I resign from all posts and primary membership of the party,” Vallabh stated in his letter.

Having served as a prominent face of the Congress Party in television debates, Vallabh highlighted his discomfort with several positions taken by the party, emphasizing its perceived lack of direction.

Vallabh ventured into electoral politics in 2019, contesting from Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur East constituency, where he secured over 18,000 votes but finished third behind the then-incumbent Chief Minister Raghubar Das and Saryu Roy.

In the subsequent Rajasthan assembly elections in 2023, Vallabh contested from the Udaipur constituency but faced defeat at the hands of the BJP candidate, losing by a margin of approximately 32,000 votes.

His decision to switch parties coincides with boxer Vijender Singh’s recent defection from the Congress to the BJP, highlighting a trend of prominent personalities moving towards the ruling party.

With the Lok Sabha elections scheduled to commence in seven phases beginning April 11, Vallabh’s move shows the shifting political landscape as parties gear up for electoral battles across the country. Counting of votes is slated for June 4.
