Rampur, 18th Oct. A court in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday convicted Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, his wife Tazeen Fatima, and their son Abdullah Azam in a case involving fake birth certificates from 2019. The court has sentenced them to seven years in jail.

Following the court’s verdict, the three individuals were taken into judicial custody and will be sent directly to jail from the court premises, said Arun Parkash Saxena, the former District Government Counsel representing the prosecution.

Magistrate Shobit Bansal from the MP-MLA court awarded the maximum sentence of seven years to the convicted trio.

The case was initiated by BJP MLA Akash Saxena, who filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Ganj police station in Rampur on January 3, 2019. The allegations stated that Azam Khan and his wife assisted their son in obtaining two fake birth certificates, one from Lucknow and another from Rampur.

According to the charge sheet, the birth certificate issued by the Rampur municipality stated Abdullah Azam’s date of birth as January 1, 1993, while the other certificate claimed he was born in Lucknow on September 30, 1990.
