Fight Corruption, Embrace Meritocracy: VP Dhankhar Urges Youth

Vice-President Stresses Importance of Rule of Law, Commends India's Economic Rise and Global Influence

Addressing the 125th Founders Day celebrations of Hindu College, University of Delhi, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar delivered a powerful speech underscoring the detrimental effects of corruption and patronage on young innovative minds, while emphasizing the importance of meritocracy and stability.

In his address, Dhankhar reiterated that corruption and patronage pose significant challenges to meritocracy and stability, citing them as the worst killers of young innovative minds. He emphasized that young people despise corruption due to feelings of being cheated by nepotism and favoritism.

Highlighting recent reforms in the governance ecosystem, the Vice-President asserted that power corridors have been cleansed of corrupt elements, leading to a transparent and accountable system. He expressed optimism that the current era favors meritocracy, enabling youth to fulfill their aspirations and exploit their full potential.

Dhankhar emphasized the inalienable feature of equality before the law in democratic governance, stating that recent developments have ensured that no one is above the law. He called upon those in positions of power and authority to set an example by respecting the law, linking it to nationalism, democracy, and curbing corruption.

Reflecting on India’s economic progress over the past decade, Shri Dhankhar noted the nation’s transformation from being perceived as a burden on the global economy to being among the top five global economies. He highlighted India’s enhanced global image, exemplified by the inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member of the G20.

The Vice-President lauded recent achievements such as the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon’s south pole and the passage of legislation mandating one-third reservation for women in parliament and state legislatures. He declared that India is now in an era of hope and possibilities, urging the youth to seize independence’s opportunities.

Describing students and youth as the marathon runners of Bharat@2047, Shri Dhankhar emphasized India’s leadership in harnessing disruptive technologies like quantum computing and green hydrogen. He urged the youth to fearlessly implement their ideas and capitalize on opportunities presented by disruptive technologies like artificial intelligence and 6G.

The event was attended by dignitaries including Prof. Yogesh Singh, Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, Shri T C A Rangachari, Chairman of the Governing Body of Hindu College, Prof. Anju Srivastava, Principal of Hindu College, faculty members, and students.
