New Delhi, 1st April.
Dharamvir Gandhi, a former AAP MP from Patiala, Punjab, officially became a member of the Congress party on Monday in the presence of senior party leaders.

His decision to join the Congress comes just before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, and it is expected that Gandhi will run as a Congress candidate for the Patiala seat.

In 2014, Dharamvir Gandhi won the Lok Sabha election as an AAP candidate by defeating Preneet Kaur in Patiala.

After leaving the AAP in 2016, Gandhi, who is a doctor, established his own political party called Nawan Punjab Party, which he merged with the Congress on Monday.

Party leaders Pawan Khera, AICC in-charge for Punjab Devendra Yadav, Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, and CLP leader Pratap Singh Bajwa warmly welcomed Gandhi to the Congress party.

Bajwa expressed confidence that Gandhi’s joining will strengthen the Congress, while Warring viewed the addition of such professionals to the party as a positive development.
