Bhubaneswar, 1st April.
Well-known Odia actor and former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Akash Das Nayak officially joined the BJP on Sunday at the party headquarters in Bhubaneswar. The event was attended by Odisha BJP state president Manmohan Samal.

Akash Das Nayak, a superstar in the Odia film industry, left the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday due to his dissatisfaction with the party’s operations.

Expressing his reasons for joining the BJP, Akash Das Nayak stated, “I joined BJD to work for the development of the people of Odisha, to support PM Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat, and to contribute to the progress of my constituency, Korei. Despite not receiving a ticket in 2019, I remained dedicated to my work. After a decade of service to BJD, I made this decision based on the advice of my supporters and seniors.”

In the 2014 election, Akash Das Nayak won the Korei assembly seat on the BJD ticket. However, he did not participate in the 2019 poll and was later appointed as the Chairman of the Mo College program by the state government.

Odisha has a total of 21 parliamentary constituencies. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) dominated by winning 20 out of the 21 seats, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing one seat.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) again performed well, winning 12 seats, while the BJP came in second with 8 seats, and the Congress managed to secure just one seat.

The Lok Sabha elections in Odisha, with 21 constituencies, will be held in four phases on May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1.
