Former Envoy to China, Vikram Misri Appointed as Deputy National Security Advisor

New Delhi, 28th Dec. Vikram Misri has been appointed as the Deputy National Security Advisor in the National Security Council secretariat. He will report to NSA Ajit Doval.

Misri is a 1989 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, who served as envoy in China amid the border dispute. He was succeeded as Ambassador to China by Pradeep Kumar Rawat, a 1990 batch IFS officer, earlier this month.

Vikram’s previous stints include serving as the private secretary to PM Narendra Modi and his predecessor Manmohan Singh. He had also served as India’s envoy to Myanmar and Spain.

He was India’s ambassador to Beijing in 2019 and was also a part of several dialogues held with China following the violent Galwan Valley clash in June 2020.

Native of Srinagar, Misri is a graduate of Delhi’s prestigious Hindu College. He also holds an MBA degree .Prior to joining the Indian civil services Misri had worked in the advertising sector.
