Kolkata, 17th August. Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the second consecutive day on Saturday. The questioning is part of the ongoing investigation into the rape and murder of a post-graduate trainee doctor at the hospital.

Dr. Ghosh was first questioned on Friday, with the interrogation continuing until 3 am on Saturday. He was held at the CBI’s city office at the CGO Complex until 9:30 pm on Friday before the questioning began. He returned to the CBI office around 10:30 am on Saturday for further examination.

During the initial round of questioning, investigators probed Dr. Ghosh about his immediate response upon learning of the doctor’s death, including the instructions he gave to inform the victim’s family and how and when the police were notified. According to a CBI officer, Dr. Ghosh’s responses were inconsistent, leading to further questioning.

The former principal was also interrogated about the hospital’s duty roster, which reportedly assigned the victim to extended shifts of up to 36 to 48 hours. Dr. Ghosh resigned from his position two days after the discovery of the body, citing fears of potential attacks. His lawyer has sought protection from the Calcutta High Court, which advised him to approach a single bench for further relief.

The body of the trainee doctor was discovered in a seminar room at RG Kar Hospital on August 9. A civic volunteer has been arrested in connection with the case.

The investigation continues as the CBI seeks to unravel the details surrounding this tragic incident.
