Foundation Stone Laid for Naga Mandi in Nagaland to Boost Agri Trade

Chumoukedima, 7th Sept. Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale, laid the foundation stone for the Naga Mandi at Seithekema-A in Chumoukedima district on Friday. The initiative aims to enhance agricultural trade and bolster the agrarian economy of Nagaland.

Athawale highlighted that the Naga Mandi is projected to bring significant economic benefits, increase farmers’ income, create job opportunities, and improve market efficiency. He emphasized the Centre’s support for farmers, stating that agriculture and peasants are fundamental to meaningful life.

The Naga Mandi will feature 110 retail outlets for traders, 10 warehouse units with a total capacity of 4000 MT, and two dedicated areas for auction yards to ensure transparent trading.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and other dignitaries attended the foundation-laying ceremony. The Rural Agro Farms (RAF) LLP has been awarded a government permit to establish and operate the agricultural mandi under the Build-Operate-Maintain Public-Private Partnership (BOM-PPP) model.
