Govt Approves ‘BioE3’ Policy to Boost Biomanufacturing and Green Economy

New Delhi, 25th August. The Union Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the ‘BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment, and Employment) Policy for Fostering High Performance Biomanufacturing,’ a new initiative from the Department of Biotechnology.

The BioE3 policy focuses on innovation-driven support for research, development, and entrepreneurship across key sectors. It aims to accelerate technology development and commercialization by establishing Biomanufacturing & Bio-AI hubs and Biofoundries. The policy prioritizes regenerative bioeconomy models and green growth, supporting the expansion of India’s skilled workforce and enhancing job creation.

This policy aligns with government initiatives like the ‘Net Zero’ carbon economy and ‘Lifestyle for Environment,’ promoting a ‘Circular Bioeconomy.’ The BioE3 Policy aims to advance sustainable and innovative practices, addressing global challenges such as climate change, food security, and human health.

BioE3 will emphasize high-performance biomanufacturing, producing a range of bio-based products from medicine to materials. Strategic sectors include high-value bio-based chemicals, biopolymers, smart proteins, precision biotherapeutics, climate-resilient agriculture, carbon capture, and marine and space research.

The policy is expected to drive significant advancements in biotechnology, contributing to India’s goal of a more sustainable and innovative future.
