Haridwar, 15th July.
Over two dozen passengers were injured, including four critically, after a bus of Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) fell off a bridge near Har ki Pauri in Haridwar city on July 14. The injured have been admitted to Haridwar district hospital, confirmed Rodi Belwala police post in-charge Yashveer Singh.

The incident occurred when the bus from UPSRTC’s Moradabad depot plunged off the bridge over the Deendayal parking area, damaging several cars in the lot, Singh added. Police swiftly responded to the accident, initiating rescue operations immediately upon receiving the alert. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.

In a related development, the Gangotri Park administration has restricted access to Gomukh due to severe road damage caused by ongoing heavy rains. Notice boards have been erected at Gangotri Dham and Kankhu Barrier, informing visitors about the suspension of movement along the Gomukh Marg due to multiple road impairments.

During the Kanwar Yatra, which coincides with the month of Sawan, devotees and Kanwariyas traditionally visit Gomukh to collect water from the Ganga. Recent heavy rainfall led to flooding in drains such as Devgad, Chidbasa, and Bhojgaddi in Gangotri National Park, resulting in the collapse of a culvert and the unfortunate washing away of two Kanwariyas from Delhi.

The State Disaster Response Force promptly rescued 38 individuals trapped in the area. Meanwhile, traders at Gangotri Dham expressed discontent over the enforced travel ban. Satendra Semwal and Deepak Rana, local traders, criticized the park administration for allegedly delaying culvert repairs despite previous instances of culvert damage during rain spells.

Responding to these allegations, RN Pandey, Deputy Director of Gangotri National Park, acknowledged the presence of laborers at Chidbassa but clarified that construction efforts cannot proceed until water levels recede in the affected drains.
