Himachal HC Issues Notice on Petition Challenging BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s Election

Shimla, 25th July. The Himachal Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to BJP MP Kangana Ranaut in response to a petition challenging her election from the Mandi Lok Sabha seat.

Ranaut has been ordered to respond by August 21.

The petition, filed by Layak Ram Negi, an independent candidate, alleges that Ranaut’s victory should be annulled due to the improper rejection of Negi’s nomination papers.

Negi claims his nomination was unfairly dismissed by the returning officer, who is also named in the case.

Ranaut won the Mandi seat by defeating Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh with a margin of 74,755 votes. She secured 5,37,002 votes compared to Singh’s 4,62,267 votes.

Negi, a former forest department employee, asserts that his nomination was rejected because of a procedural issue with the “no dues certificate” from various departments.

He argues that his candidacy was unfairly disqualified and that he could have won if his nomination had been accepted. Negi seeks to have Ranaut’s election nullified based on these claims.
