New Delhi, 8th April: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday paid tribute to Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay on his death anniversary, remembering him as a towering figure who inspired national awakening and unity.
In a message shared on social media, Shah said Bankim Chandra played a pivotal role in restoring India’s self-respect during a time marked by exploitation and injustice under foreign rule.
He highlighted the enduring impact of the iconic song Vande Mataram, noting that it gave a unifying voice to the freedom struggle across regions, languages and communities.
Referring to Bankim Chandra’s literary work Anandamath, the Home Minister said it portrayed the spirit of Mother India and inspired generations of youth to dedicate themselves to the cause of freedom and nation-building.
Shah added that the country and its civilisation will remain eternally indebted to Bankim Chandra for his contributions in shaping national consciousness and motivating citizens to safeguard the nation.
