Hyderabad: Weddings postponed due to the rise in COVID cases

Hyderabad, 9th Jan.  Due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the city, large weddings are being postponed.

The COVID pandemic has been wreaking havoc on the wedding industry for the past two years, with people either postponing weddings or reducing guest lists to comply with the restrictions.
According to the Times of India, Ian Dubier, president of the Hotels and Restaurants Association of Telangana, banquet businesses are losing money as people cancel or postpone events due to an increase in COVID cases.
Telangana reported 2,606 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. In the 24 hours leading up to 5.30 p.m. Saturday, two more people died from the virus.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation was responsible for nearly 65% of the cases reported on Saturday. The neighbouring urban districts of Medchal Malkajgiri (292) and Rangareddy (214), respectively, came in second and third.
Meanwhile, India now has 3,623 cases of the highly transmissible Covid-19 variant.
According to the Union Health Ministry, the virus has spread to 27 states and territories so far, with Maharashtra and Delhi continuing to be the worst-affected.
