IMD Forecasts Weather Patterns for First Week of May 2024

New Delhi, 1st May. 
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its weather forecast for the initial week of May 2024, highlighting various weather phenomena across different regions of India.

1. Heat Wave Conditions:

• Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are expected to persist over East India until May 2nd and over south Peninsular India until May 3rd, gradually improving thereafter.

• Maharashtra and Gujarat are likely to experience heat wave conditions over the next five days, while Central India may witness heat wave conditions from May 3rd to May 5th.

• Rayalaseema may experience severe heat wave conditions for the next three days, followed by heat wave conditions for the subsequent two days. Isolated pockets of Telangana, Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and Kerala are also expected to experience heat wave conditions.

• Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat State, and Marathwada may witness heat wave conditions from May 1st to May 5th.

2. Rainfall Activity:

• Northeast India is expected to experience heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds until May 2nd.

• A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from May 3rd, bringing scattered light to moderate rainfall/snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh.

• Rainfall activity is also anticipated over south peninsular India from May 5th to May 8th.

3. Other Weather Warnings:

• Strong surface winds are expected over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi until May 3rd.

• Maximum temperatures in the range of 44-47°C are likely to continue over Gangetic West Bengal, East Jharkhand, north Odisha, and Rayalaseema until May 3rd.

• Warm nights are expected over Chhattisgarh, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada until May 5th, along with hot and humid weather prevailing over Coast Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, and West Assam on May 1st.
