India and Japan Pledge to Deepen Defence Ties and Industrial Cooperation

New Delhi, 21st August. India and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their defence and security collaboration under the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

In a recent meeting, Defence Ministers from both nations reviewed existing cooperation activities and explored avenues to further enhance their partnership.

The Ministers welcomed the growing diversity and frequency of defence exercises and exchanges between the two countries, agreeing to expand the scope and complexity of these engagements. They emphasized the importance of widening cooperation in Defence Equipment, Technological Cooperation, and critical emerging technology domains.

Discussions also focused on industrial collaboration, particularly in the context of India’s ‘Make-in-India’ initiative. The Ministers expressed a shared vision for co-production and co-development, aiming to strengthen domestic defence capabilities. India’s Raksha Mantri highlighted the nation’s vision of becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, marking 100 years of independence, and underscored the importance of partnering with Japan in achieving this goal.

Both sides committed to formulating a vision for this partnership to meet India’s objectives by 2047, further solidifying the strategic relationship between the two nations.
