India and Poland Establish Strategic Partnership, Announce Joint Action Plan

Warsaw, 23rd August. During an official visit to Poland, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Donald Tusk of Poland announced the establishment of a “Strategic Partnership” between their nations, marking a significant upgrade in bilateral relations as they celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

The joint statement highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between India and Poland and outlined their commitment to enhancing cooperation across various domains. Both leaders emphasized shared values of democracy, freedom, and a rules-based international order as the foundation of their growing partnership. They reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral, regional, and international cooperation to foster a stable, prosperous, and sustainable world.

Key areas of focus for the newly established partnership include:

Economic Relations: Intensifying trade and investment, balancing bilateral trade, and exploring cooperation in technology, agriculture, connectivity, mining, energy, and the environment.

Digitalization and Cybersecurity: Enhancing cooperation in digitalization and cybersecurity to bolster stability and trust.

Connectivity: Increasing direct flight connections and strengthening maritime cooperation.

Defense: Utilizing existing bilateral mechanisms, including the Joint Working Group for Defence Cooperation.

Global Issues: Addressing global challenges such as the Ukraine conflict, global food and energy security, terrorism, and climate change.

Indo-Pacific: Supporting a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region, respecting international law and sovereignty.

Both leaders also expressed their commitment to peace and a rules-based international order, with a focus on upholding the UN Charter and cooperating on global security issues. They condemned terrorism in all forms and reaffirmed their support for the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT).

The leaders acknowledged the importance of parliamentary contacts and people-to-people ties, agreeing to expand cooperation in culture, education, science, research, and health. They also emphasized the role of tourism in enhancing mutual understanding and economic opportunities.

To implement the Strategic Partnership, a five-year Joint Action Plan for 2024-2028 was agreed upon. Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude for Poland’s hospitality and extended an invitation to Prime Minister Tusk to visit India.

The visit marks a new era in India-Poland relations, setting the stage for deeper collaboration and a strengthened partnership between the two nations.
