India Assumes Chair of Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre

New Delhi, 27th July. India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has taken on a prominent role in global and regional Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) efforts. India’s proactive approach includes establishing the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), aimed at enhancing global resilience against natural disasters.

On July 25, 2024, Rajendra Singh, Member and Head of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), assumed the Chair of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) from the People’s Republic of China. The handover took place in Bangkok, Thailand. ADPC is a key international organization focused on disaster risk reduction and climate resilience across Asia and the Pacific.

India’s leadership will be pivotal for the ADPC in the 2024-25 period. The country also presided over the 5th Board of Trustee meeting of ADPC, underscoring its commitment to advancing regional disaster preparedness and resilience.
