New Delhi, 6th September. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that India and Bangladesh should work together to combat terrorist and fundamentalist forces that threaten mutual trust.

PM Modi made these remarks following bilateral talks with visiting Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who made a strong pitch for the Teesta water-sharing agreement to be completed as soon as possible.

“Today we also stressed on cooperation against terrorism and fundamentalism. To keep the spirit of 1971 alive, it is also very necessary that we face such forces together, who want to attack our mutual trust,” PM Modi said.

Following the talks between PM Modi and PM Hasina, India and Bangladesh signed seven agreements, including one on the sharing of water from the Kushiyara river, which is expected to benefit southern Assam and Bangladesh’s Sylhet region.

PM Modi stated that 54 rivers cross the borders of India and Bangladesh and have been linked to the livelihoods of both countries for centuries.
