Malé, 12th August.
India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, and Maldives’ Foreign Minister, Moosa Zameer, have renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to train 1,000 Maldivian civil service officers between 2024 and 2029.

The renewal, signed on August 9, 2024, in Malé, underscores the continued commitment to capacity building as part of the development partnership between the two nations.

The MoU, initially signed on June 8, 2019, between India’s National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) and the Maldives Civil Service Commission, led to the successful training of 1,000 Maldivian civil servants by 2024. The training included Permanent Secretaries, Secretary Generals, and high-level delegates, focusing on field administration, anti-corruption practices, and information management.

Acknowledging the success of the previous collaboration, the Maldives requested the renewal of the MoU for another five years. The renewed agreement aims to further enhance the capabilities of Maldivian civil servants in public policy, governance, and field administration, solidifying the ties between India and the Maldives.

The NCGG, under the guidance of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, has been instrumental in capacity building for civil servants across multiple countries, including Bangladesh, Tanzania, Gambia, and Sri Lanka. The center’s programs emphasize citizen-centric governance, service delivery improvement, and digital transformation, showcasing India’s best practices in governance.

This renewed partnership will continue to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration, contributing to the development and empowerment of civil servants in the Maldives.
