India-Russia Hold Discussions on UN-related Issues

New Delhi, 29th July. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India and Russia held extensive discussions on Thursday about the UN Security Council agenda and recent developments.

It also stated that the two sides agreed to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation at the UN and other multilateral platforms.

The Moscow talks took place in the midst of the Ukrainian conflict.

“Both sides held wide-ranging discussions on issues on the UN Security Council agenda and recent developments. They agreed to deepen cooperation on counter-terrorism at UN and other multilateral platforms,” the MEA said in a statement.

“The Indian delegation briefed Russia on its priorities during its upcoming Presidency of the UNSC in December 2022,” it said.

The Indian delegation for consultations on UN-related issues was led by Sanjay Verma, Secretary (West) in the MEA.

The Indian delegation included the Indian ambassador to Russia as well as other MEA officials.

Sergey Vasilyevich Vershinin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, led the Russian delegation.

Verma also met with Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Vladimirovich Syromolotov to discuss mutual cooperation on counter-terrorism issues.

He will also meet with Nikolay Korchunov, Ambassador-at-Large for Arctic Cooperation, to discuss Arctic issues, according to the MEA.
