India Showcases Green Hydrogen Mission at World Summit in Netherlands

India has made its debut at the prestigious World Hydrogen Summit 2024 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, with the inauguration of the maiden India Pavilion. Organized by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, the pavilion stands as one of the largest at the Summit, symbolizing India’s commitment to advancing green hydrogen technologies.

Inauguration and Participation:

Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Shri Bhupinder S. Bhalla, inaugurated the India Pavilion on May 12, 2024. The Summit, a gathering of approximately 15,000 delegates from across the globe, offers India a platform to showcase its advancements in the field of Green Hydrogen.

Diverse Delegation:

Representatives from various Indian ministries, including the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Railways, and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, are part of the Indian delegation. Private sector companies are also represented, fostering collaborations and partnerships on a global scale.

National Green Hydrogen Mission:

India’s ambitious National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched in January 2023 with an outlay of Rs. 19,744 crores, aims to achieve a green hydrogen production capacity of 5 Million Metric Tonnes (MMT) by 2030. Currently, tenders have been awarded for setting up 412,000 tonnes of Green Hydrogen production capacity and 1,500 MW of electrolyzer manufacturing capacity.

Scheme Guidelines and Innovation Initiatives:

Guidelines have been notified for the utilization of Green Hydrogen in sectors such as steel, transportation, and shipping. The Department of Science and Technology has initiated Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters to foster innovation and promote the Green Hydrogen ecosystem within India.

Dedicated Portal for Mission:

To streamline information dissemination, a dedicated portal for the National Green Hydrogen Mission has been launched recently. This portal serves as a centralized hub for updates on the Mission’s progress and initiatives undertaken to develop the green hydrogen ecosystem in India.

India’s participation in the World Hydrogen Summit signifies its commitment to sustainable energy solutions and its proactive role in the global transition towards a greener future.
