Indian Telecom Giants Raise Tariffs: Here’s How to Manage Data Usage Effectively

New Delhi, 13th July.
Leading telecom operators in India, including Jio, Airtel, and Vi, have recently implemented significant revisions to their recharge plans, resulting in an average tariff increase of approximately 15 percent.

Alongside these price adjustments, the companies have also reduced the data and calling benefits offered under their existing plans. This move is expected to impact users who rely on data booster plans, as they will now face higher charges.

For users opting for lump sum data plans, it is recommended to utilize the ‘Data Warning’ and ‘Data Limit’ features available on smartphones.

Enabling the ‘Data Warning’ feature alerts users when they approach their set data usage limit, while the ‘Data Limit’ feature automatically stops internet access once the limit is exceeded.

“These features are crucial to prevent data wastage and ensure availability for emergencies, while also helping users monitor their data consumption,” said a telecom industry expert.

To set data usage limits on your smartphone, follow these steps:

Setting Data Warning:

  1. Open the Settings app on your phone.
  2. Select ‘Network & internet’ and then ‘Internet’.
  3. Locate your carrier and tap ‘Settings’ next to it.
  4. Tap ‘Data warning & limit’. If not enabled, enable ‘Set data warning’ first.
  5. Tap ‘Data warning’.
  6. Enter your desired limit (in MB or GB).
  7. Tap ‘Set’ to confirm. You will receive a notification when you approach this limit.

Setting Data Limit:

  1. Follow steps 1 to 4 as mentioned above.
  2. If not already enabled, turn on ‘Set data limit’. Read the message and tap ‘OK’.
  3. Tap ‘Data limit’.
  4. Enter your desired data limit (in MB or GB).
  5. Tap ‘Set’. When your data limit is reached, mobile data will turn off automatically.
  6. To reactivate mobile data after reaching the limit, disable the ‘Set data limit’ option following the same steps.

These steps ensure users have control over their data usage, helping them manage costs effectively amidst the recent tariff adjustments by telecom operators.
