Jaipur, 1st April: The Centre will launch a nationwide series of regional agriculture conferences beginning April 7 in Jaipur, aimed at strengthening Centre–State coordination and accelerating reforms in the sector, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said.
The initiative, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeks to bring policymakers, scientists, farmers, and industry stakeholders onto a single platform to review existing schemes and chart future strategies based on field-level inputs.
The first conference for the western region will be held in Jaipur, with participation from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma is expected to attend along with state agriculture ministers and senior officials.
Subsequent conferences will be held in Lucknow (April 17) for northern states, Bhubaneswar (April 24) for eastern states, followed by meetings in Hyderabad and Guwahati covering southern and northeastern regions.
According to the government, the primary objective is to enhance implementation of key agricultural schemes while addressing region-specific challenges. Focus areas include the Aatmanirbhar Dalhan Mission, National Edible Oil Mission, Natural Farming Mission, and Digital Agriculture Mission.
The conferences will also facilitate sharing of best practices in irrigation, fertiliser distribution, agri-stack development, and value chain management, enabling states to replicate successful models.
A wide range of stakeholders, including experts from Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, NABARD, agri-startups, and farmer producer organisations, will participate in the discussions.
Chouhan said the platform will allow farmers to directly share feedback and experiences, ensuring that policymaking remains aligned with ground realities.
He expressed confidence that the initiative will drive innovation, boost investment, and improve productivity, ultimately leading to higher farmer incomes and sustainable rural development.
