Mandya, 6th April.
H. D. Kumaraswamy, leader of the Janata Dal (Secular) [JD(S)], has expressed his commitment to strengthening the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) prospects in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. However, he emphasized that the continuation of the alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) post-elections hinges on how his party and its leaders are treated.

Speaking exclusively to PTI Videos after filing his nomination from Mandya, Kumaraswamy, the state JD(S) President, asserted, “We being part of the NDA depends on how our party leaders are treated in the future. We are sincerely working, and we want a long-standing relationship with BJP. But ultimately, we will take a decision depending on how we are treated and how much respect we get from the BJP.”

JD(S), under the leadership of former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda, forged an alliance with the BJP-led NDA in September the previous year. As per the seat-sharing agreement in Karnataka, BJP contests in 25 constituencies, while JD(S) contests in three—Mandya, Hassan, and Kolar.

Expressing his aspiration to serve as the Union Agriculture Minister in the event of the NDA returning to power, Kumaraswamy stated, “It is not only the aspirations of people of Mandya to see me as union minister, even my BJP friends feel that it will be good for the state if I become a minister.”

Emphasizing the natural alliance between JD(S) and BJP, Kumaraswamy highlighted their mutual efforts to secure victories in the upcoming elections, aiming for all 28 seats in Karnataka.

Regarding the Congress, Kumaraswamy criticized their financial management in Karnataka, alleging mismanagement of state finances and lack of funds for development due to guarantee schemes. He accused the Congress of deflecting blame onto the Centre for discrepancies in GST refunds and grants.
