GG News Bureau
Jammu, 18th Sept. Congress General Secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir stated on Wednesday that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are voting in large numbers to demand the restoration of statehood and protection of their rights. Mir, who is contesting from the Dooru Assembly segment, expressed his intention to challenge “Delhi’s rule” in the region.

“By casting my vote today, I aim to end Delhi’s control over J&K and ensure prosperity and happiness for the people,” Mir told PTI Videos. He emphasized that the voting process is a critical step towards securing land and job rights, as well as restoring statehood.

Voting began for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections on Wednesday, marking the first such elections since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. The initial phase covers 24 constituencies across seven districts, with tight security measures in place.

This election is the first assembly poll under the new Union Territory setup, following the bifurcation of the erstwhile state into Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

The remaining phases of the election are scheduled for September 25 and October 1, with votes to be counted on October 8.
