New Delhi, 21st April. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Mahavir Nirvana Mahotsav and gave a speech at an event at Bharat Mandapam on Sunday in honor of Mahavir Jayanti, marking the 2,550th anniversary of Bhagwan Mahavir’s nirvana.

PM Modi spoke to the assembly and released a commemorative stamp while a number of well-known Jain saints graced the occasion and blessed the assemblage.

“Today’s world is witnessing the teachings of Bhagwan Mahavir,” Prime Minister Modi declared, addressing the assembly at Bharat Mandapam. Mahavir’s appeal to young people indicates that the nation is headed in the right path.”

Prime Minister Modi made reference to elections throughout his speech. “I would have spoken differently if this hadn’t been election season,” he remarked. Even though I’m not here for elections, you all seem to be. I implore you to brave the hot heat and cast your ballot. “‘Lotus has a direct line to all the saints’ (sabhi santo’n ke saath seedha seedha judav hai).”

On Acharya Vidyasagar Maharaj, PM Modi paid tribute. He stated, “He might not be here physically but his teachings are with us.”

“The nation is at the start of Amritkaal. The nation is of the opinion that democracy holds the key to the future. I’m glad to see members of every Jain sect present. We desire that India will still commemorate and honor Mahaveer in a millennium.

Only India considers the needs of others in addition to its own. India is the one who considers “us,” not “I.” Arguments arise as things change throughout time. It’s excellent if disagreements lead to something positive. The Jain Tirthankar imparted lessons on a single world. PM Modi stated, “This is India’s message to the world.”

“The New India is being attributed to our new age Foreign Policy and Self Dependence,” Prime Minister Modi stated. However, our history also plays a part in this. PM discusses the Forward World Initiative and Life. ISA and solar power were discussed. This has altered not just Indian society but also our place in the world. The world has faced numerous challenges, but India has been able to overcome them because of our Rishis and their teachings.”

“I promise everyone present that this nation will persist in promoting nonviolence.” I have no doubt that you will all contribute to our nation’s empowerment. I applaud the Jain community for advancing women’s development and empowerment,” he continued.

Who was Bhagwan Mahavir?

Bhagwan Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankar, used Jain values such as ahimsa (non-violence), satya (truthfulness), asteya (non-stealing), brahmacharya (chastity), and aparigraha (non-attachment) to reveal the way of peaceful coexistence and global brotherhood.

Every Tirthankar, including Lord Mahavir, has five Kalyanaks (important events) that Jains commemorate: Nirvana (Liberation/Ultimate Salvation), Janma (Birth), Diksha (Renunciation), Kevaljnana (Omniscience), and Chyavana/Garbha (Conception).
