Mandi, 7th April.
Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut, a contender for the Mandi Lok Sabha seat for the BJP, stated that the Women’s Reservation Bill, which was just enacted by the Parliament, was the reason she was able to obtain a saffron party poll ticket.

However, Boom discovered that the law hasn’t yet been put into effect, hence the claim was determined to be false. Kangana Ranaut was declared by the BJP on March 24 as their candidate for the crucial Lok Sabha elections from the Mandi seat.

Ranaut praised the Women’s Reservation Bill against the backdrop of her election campaign in Mandi’s Balh village, stating that it was the reason she was given a poll ticket.

“I’m on this podium today because of the Women’s Reservation Bill, which gives women (30%) reservation in the Lok Sabha. Your daughter from Mandi has reached this point as a result,” she remarked.

Fact check:

Book, a global fact-checking network, discovered that Kangana’s assertion regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill was untrue because it had not yet been put into effect. But in both houses, it passed the floor test. The bill would take effect sometime in 2029, the network discovered.

Women’s Reservation Bill:

The Parliament has passed an important bill that would give women a 30% reservation in the Lok Sabha. On September 20, 2023, the measure was approved by the Lok Sabha, marking 27 years since it was initially presented in the legislature. The Bill was unanimously approved by the Rajya Sabha on September 22 as well. On September 28, the President also approved the law. It will, however, take effect following the census in 2026. Before the law is introduced, the delimitation exercise will also take place.

The opposition fiercely criticized the ruling party for the bill’s timing, claiming that it was only put in place to win over female votes and would not guarantee a 30% reservation for women in the 2024 election.
