Chandigarh, 7th June.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable accused of slapping Mandi MP and actor Kangana Ranaut at the Chandigarh airport has been suspended, with a police case filed against her, authorities confirmed. The incident, which occurred as Ranaut was en route to Delhi after her Lok Sabha election victory in Himachal Pradesh, stemmed from an alleged disrespect towards farmers.

The constable, Kulwinder Kaur, cited an older statement by Ms. Ranaut as the trigger for her actions. Ranaut’s remarks during the 2020 farmers’ protest, where she implied that protesters were paid ₹100, reportedly incited Kaur, whose mother was participating in the demonstration.

Video footage from the airport shows Ranaut being escorted to the security checkpoint, where the altercation took place. Although the video doesn’t capture the alleged slap, it depicts a heated exchange before Ranaut is escorted away.

Following the incident, Ranaut addressed the situation in a video shared on social media, detailing the events and expressing concern over rising terrorism in Punjab.

This altercation adds to Ranaut’s history of contentious statements regarding the farmers’ protest. Notably, her clash with international pop star Rihanna over the issue and subsequent remarks likening protesters to terrorists have drawn widespread attention.

The farmers’ protest, a prolonged and impactful movement, has remained a contentious issue, potentially influencing political dynamics, including the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Ranaut’s involvement in various incidents related to the protests has further fueled controversy surrounding the movement.
