Kanimozhi Assumes Leadership Role as DMK Parliamentary Party Leader

In an elevation within the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Member of Parliament Kanimozhi, representing the Thoothukudi Lok Sabha constituency, has been appointed as the party’s parliamentary leader. The announcement, made by the DMK, marks a notable shift in leadership dynamics within the party.

Kanimozhi’s appointment comes as she replaces T R Baalu, the Sriperumbudur MP, who will now assume the mantle of leading the DMK in the Lok Sabha. Additionally, Dayanidhi Maran, representing the Chennai Central constituency, has been designated as the party’s deputy leader in the Lok Sabha.

The statement issued by DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin further outlined key appointments within the parliamentary setup. Former Union Minister A Raja, hailing from the Nilgiris constituency, will serve as the Whip in the Lok Sabha. Tiruchi N Siva has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the DMK in the Rajya Sabha.

Further organizational roles within the parliamentary party include M Shanmugam, the DMK trade union LPF general secretary, assuming the position of deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha. P Wilson, a senior advocate, will serve as the party’s Whip in the Rajya Sabha, while S Jegathratchagan, MP for Arakkonam, will take on the role of DMK treasurer in both the Houses.
