Thiruvananthapuram, 27th Dec. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday at the latter’s official residence in New Delhi, according to an official source.

The Chief Minister’s Office shared photos of the meeting, which comes after farmers and residents in forested areas of the southern state protested the implementation of one-kilometer eco-sensitive zones (ESZ) in those areas.

The Chief Minister’s Office released no other information about the meeting other than photographs.

On Monday, an official source stated that the ESZ issue would most likely be discussed during the meeting.

Besides that, the delay in getting the Central government’s clearance for the semi-high speed rail project SilverLine, connecting Kasaragod in the north to Thiruvananthapuram in the south, and the financial crisis that has gripped the state during the time of COVID-19 pandemic may also be topics of discussion, the source had said.

The state government has blamed the economic crisis on natural disasters and pandemics, distorted policies of the Centre, the implementation of the GST without much thought, the delayed distribution of GST compensation, and the Union government’s imposition of cuts in the state’s borrowing limit.
