Mohali, 19th Feb:
During a lecture at the Indian School of Business (ISB) in Mohali, Captain Amarinder Singh recounted a time when terrorists (referred to as “Khalistanis”) roamed the streets of Punjab. These individuals would enter homes, cook meals for women, arrange their beds, and then commit heinous acts of rape against their daughters. The situation was akin to a wildfire spreading across the entire state of Punjab.

Captain Amarinder Singh further reflected on the transformation of the Punjab Police during that critical period. Under the adept leadership of KPS Gill, the police force underwent significant changes. Gill, who understood the cruel mindset of the terrorists, empowered the police to combat them effectively. Night domination operations were initiated, and the police patrolled villages, leading to the eventual defeat of terrorism.

Additionally, Captain Amarinder Singh shared an incident from his own experience. He recalled traveling from Batala (in Gurudaspur district) to Amritsar, where he encountered deserted roads. Not a single person was visible along the entire stretch. At one point, he stopped at the residence of Deputy Commissioner Gill to discuss official matters. The gatekeeper informed him that the Deputy Commissioner was unavailable due to the evening closure of gates. This practice was a result of the prevailing fear of terrorism.

The Punjab Police, under Gill’s leadership, not only restored law and order but also gained the trust of the common people. Their relentless efforts and understanding of the local psyche led to the defeat of terrorism in the region, said Captain Amarinder Singh.
